Heritage at Risk Officer

Before the bulldozers arrived

After they had finished

Birkenhead and Tranmere has many heritage buildings.

Wirral Council now have a  Heritage Officer for our area whose role is to give advice and review planning applications for listed buildings.

Many people bemoan the loss of characterful buildings in the area such as the Classic in Conway Street. Prior to the appointment of a Heritage Officer, we lost this classic building (see photos) and it is not the only loss. We also lost the old ABC on Argyle Street.

If there had been a Heritage Officer at the time, these  important examples of 1930s Art Deco would still be with us.

If you know of any building that is at risk and needs attention of the Heritage Officer, please let us know.

If you wish you can check out our privacy policy (opens in separate tab) before sending.
