Philip Barton (Honorary Chair)
Philip was born in Oldfield Way, Heswall in 1967. His father was born in Hoylake and worked as a chief draughtsman at Cammell Lairds shipyard, where he was credited as a co-inventor of the Cammella Bearing in 1966.
His mother was born in Islington, London, and worked with disabled children. Philip is named after two of the children she cared for.
Philip’s family moved to Bidston Village in 1969 and he has lived in Birkenhead for most of his life. Philip is a chartered town planner by profession and is educated to masters degree level. He currently works for the Scottish Government on a self-employed basis, deciding appeals against the decisions of local councils.
Philip has been involved in community regeneration activity for nearly 20 years. He sat on a committee which helped to bring ASDA back into Birkenhead and has helped to found a number of local charities. Most recently, he was chair of the Birkenhead & Tranmere Neighbourhood Planning Forum and he remains chair of the Hamilton Square Conservation Area Advisory Committee.
