“Backin’ Birkenhead” evokes the idea of a civic movement of people
working together for the future of their town. From the outset, everyone
with enthusiasm, knowledge, skills, and an interest in Birkenhead has
been welcome. Maintaining this inclusive approach, and encouraging
ongoing participation, is essential. Backin’ Birkenhead must continue
to involve all residents, local businesses, third sector organisations,
developers, and public bodies.
Sustaining Backin’ Birkenhead for the long term. To support this, we
have taken over an existing Community Benefit Society, creating a solid
foundation for community-led activity. Wirral Council for Voluntary
Services (WCVS) plays a vital role as a governance and resourcing
advisor. Securing a dedicated community space, the Backin’ Room, will
provide a central hub for collaboration, innovation, and shared ideas.
A flat structure with distributed leadership will help keep Backin’
Birkenhead equitable, accountable, and transparent. An independent
chair, supported by a steering group, will be responsible for
administering the Place Plan, ensuring the initiative remains active and
effective.
